9ofme – A Photographic experiment…

Most of you who know me, know I hate having my photograph taken. Period. (I know it’s American, but it like its emphasis!).

So, with a photoshoot today unfortunately cancelled and one hell of an itch to try out my Bowens ring flash.. I.. well… err… well..

Somewhere on my site lurks an expression range.

..Why did I tell you all that, why….!?

KrisElliott.com relaunches – new site, new logo, new photography!

Well its been a hard slog, but the deletion of my website (whoops) turned out to be a good thing!

After tearing through websites learning the latest in html and integrating some fancy new flash galleries and a new blog (haven’t you noticed!), it’s finally complete and waiting on my new photographs due this weekend.

It’s a bit of a mish mash, but i’m darn proud of my effort – one day when I can afford it, i’ll get a pro to do it, but for now – this will do nicely.

This site features the most photographs any of my sites have ever had, this will continue as the galleries are actually easy to maintain and update. So enjoy, take a look around and I hope it functions correctly for most of you.

PS. This website has been designed for modern browsers, Internet Explorer may throw a wobbly here and there – so may I suggest you head over to getfirefox.com (for firefox) or even apple.com/uk (for safari) and download a real browser that will enrich your life and make you all warm and fuzzy inside!

The Fetts and Nina @ Underworld in Camden Town

As usual I was hot on the heels of The Fetts at their latest gig in Camden’s Underworld at the weekend.

A cracking gig and a great set of photographs from The Fetts and a following band called Nina (or NINA, I’m not sure!). Didn’t get chance to hang around all evening for the gig so sorry the rest of you who were on after Nina played out.

My website is undergoing a revamp and rebrand so these photographs are hosted on my Flickr site (www.flickr.com/kriselliott).

My new studio light bag!

Introducing the Bowens Gimlet – my new studio light bag!

Having done the shoot with Brett yesterday, dragging around one case of studio lights was pretty tough going. This was then intensified when one of the wheels decided to jam up on me. Usually when I shoot in London I’d hire a streetcar or jump in a cab, this all adds up mind and given I’m trying to do a shoot at least every weekend – would soon bankrupt me.

My current bags hold all my gear but getting two around by tube is near impossible by myself.

So I made a call and purchased the Gimlet. OK yes it was expensive, but technically will pay for itself in 5 shoots. It’s a bit of a squeeze, 90% of all my gear fits in it apart from the snoot (my cone shaped light funnel) but that can just come by carrier bag or strapped on the front if I need it. The wheels are the main thing, they’re like golf bag wheels and ideal for bringing my equipment around London.

For anyone that would like to see my new Bee esque bag, a photograph of it is below!

Update! I have just managed to fit the snoot in the bag, that it – my entire studio kit fits in the Gimlet!!! woo hooo!

Brett Halsey under the lens – One shoot, two very different styles of Photography

Today marked the re-vamp of my portfolio and my aim to do at least one photoshoot every week (on the weekend) for the next couple of months.

Brett Halsey was first up. After a brief trudge around Battersea in a vague attempt to do the photoshoot in/around the disused historic power station, we resided to the fact the boards surrounding it were never-ending and did the shoot in a railway arch around the corner.

This was Brett’s forth ever photoshoot and I was determined to jazz his portfolio up a lil. This also led me to play around with the exposures, and consequently ended up with two very different styles of shooting [trust me, you'll notice when you look at the photographs!].

Photoset – The Fetts @ Bar 229

Saturday evening saw ‘The Fetts’ play out at 229 just of Great Portland street in London.

Treading new ground on this one – I left my comfort zone of controlled lighting to variable exposure flashing stage lights.

So I had a bit of fun on this one; we’ve got the (1) bog standard bounced flash – general overtones and evenly lit (2) the second curtain sync – long exposure shots with a flash at the end of the shot to freeze what ever is there into the frame. Finally we have (3) turn the flash off and hope the stage lighting can provide enough oomph (technical term) to expose the shot.

Steep learning curve, and I think exposure (3) turned out the best results.

Behind the scenes at the recording of ‘The Fetts’ first album

I had the pleasure of photographing the recording of ‘The Fetts’ new album at Unsigned Studios in St Albans the other week.

I never quite appreciated just how much work and how many takes go in to recording a single track – I even had to try my hand at using a camcorder (which I’m pretty sure was crap) because my Camera was too loud and would have been easily heard on the recordings!

Anyway, the guys were great and I snuck in whilst they were recording their test tracks to get the camera shots. Photographs can be seen on my website here: www.kriselliott.com/thefettsrec.html

Ethan Evans under the lens

Ethan Evans [website], a young sparky actor underwent my camera treatment on the weekend.

I hope to play against his acting skills in a couple of up-coming photoshoots and produce something really almost Tarintino-esque.

Preview of his set attached, more to follow..

The Fetts Band Shoot

Several weeks ago, the day before London’s infamous Snow Day – I had the pleasure of photographing a new upcoming band.

IntroducingThe Fetts, we spent they day in freezing tempertures around City airport, Central LondonĀ  and in an underground car park (by which time I think we all just wanted a hot drink and open fire!).

You can see the photographs from the shoot on my website www.kriselliott.com/thefetts.html
